The coordination chemistry laboratory at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Kyushu University has been very traditional lab, and has been successful in the research activities as well as in growing up many excellent academia.

This lab was first taken care of by Prof. Dr. Shigeo Kida, who is now one of the Emeritus professors of Kyushu University. As the second stage of this lab, it was taken care of by Prof. Dr. Hisashi Ohkawa, who is also one of the Emeritus professors of this University. Prof. Kida received his Ph.D. from Osaka University. Prof. Ohkawa took his Ph.D. in pure organic chemistry, and he then he changed his major field into the coordination chemistry.

The third stage of this lab is now under the care of K.S. If one inspect the scientist who used to study at this lab, one realizes that amazingly a lot of excellent scientists once had their research life at this lab. As shown in the following list, many academia listed below who were used to be involved in the research activity at this lab are now independently leading their own groups. Many of them are still involved in the research activities that are correlated with their experiences in coordination chemistry. I hope that the young students at this university are still powerful enough to be successful in their research activities.

  • The photo at the top of this page, taken very recently, shows a view of West Zone building #1 of Ito campus. The buildings in the left of the photo are A block and B block where laboratorys of Department of Chemistry are located. Our lab is located on the north side of 10th floor of B block.

The photo at the bottom shows a view of the building #2 of the Faculty of Science at our older campus, Hakozaki campus. The next photo shows a sign showing that this is the entrance of the Department of Chemistry in Japanese-style Chinese characters. This is located on the east-south part of the building #2.
