Functional Coordination Chemistry (Kosei Yamauchi Lab.)

Our objective is to construct molecular systems that convert renewable energy (e.g., sunlight) into chemical energy. Our research focuses particularly on hydrogen and oxygen evolution via water splitting and on carbon dioxide reduction promoted by molecular catalysts bearing several ligand frameworks. Through advanced electrochemical analyses in homogeneous solution and quantum chemical calculations, we elucidate the factors governing reactivity and establish design principles for molecular catalysts to enable catalysts with exceptionally high activity.
