ABOUT US

Cells, the basic unit of life, can exert multifunction by constructing extremely complex metabolic systems based on their genetic information. In our laboratory, by using budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism, we focus on the structure and function of lipids, which are required for membrane and organelle biogenesis and intra- and inter-cellular signalings. Especially, we are interested in biological function of sphingolipids.

Research Theme

  • Physiological significance of strutural diversity of complex sphingolipids
  • Protection mechanisms against aberrant metabolism of membrane sphingolipids
  • Mechanisms of action of sphingolipid signaling molecules
